Dave Duerson, Member Of Famed Bears Defense Passes Suddenly At 50
dave duersonThe Chicago Bears are mourning the passing of former safety Dave Duerson who died suddenly Thursday night at the age of 50. The cause of death is not yet known.
Duerson was found deceased in his Miami Dade home, NBC Chicago confirmed.
“Our family asks that you please remember Dave as a good, kind, and caring man,” Alicia Duerson, his ex-wife told NBC affiliate. “He loved and cherished his family and friends and was extremely proud of his beloved Notre Dame and … Chicago Bears. Please keep Dave and our family in your prayers.”
Duerson captured two Super Bowl titles in his career–Super Bowl XX as a member of the famed Bears defense and five years later in Super Bowl XXV as a member of the New York Giants.
He was also named the 1987 Walter Payton Man of the Year.
The Chicago Bears issued the following brief statement:
“We are stunned and saddened to hear the tragic news regarding Dave Duerson. He was a great contributor to our team and the Chicago community. Today is a difficult day for all of us who loved Dave. We’ll miss him. Our prayers are with his family.”
